District Interact Conference 2026 New Generation Service

District Interact Conference 2026

The 1493rd RWM was presided over by Vice President Rtn Pravin Pradhan. Welcoming the members, he invited Rtn CA Sumit Jindal to present a report on the District Interact Conference held on 2nd and 3rd May at Dr. Graham’s Homes, Kalimpong. Rtn Sumit Jindal informed that the conference theme was “NEEV – Foundation to Future Leaders.” Over 150 Interactors from 11 schools across Malda, Siliguri, Kurseong, Darjeeling, Gangtok, and Kalimpong participated. AG Zone 8 Rtn Shoyeta Chatterjee attended as Chief Guest, while Mr. Neil Monteiro, Principal of Dr. Graham’s Homes, was the Guest of Honour. Day 1 included registration, the inaugural session, leadership games, a ballroom dance, and a bonfire for boarders. Day 2 began with a nature walk, followed by team-building games, a conference for club Presidents and Secretaries, and competitions such as placard making, dance, fashion parade, and reel making. Participants left highly satisfied and confident.

Installation of Overhead Projector at Learning Com

The Rotary Club of Kalimpong installed an Over Head Projector in the Learning Commons Digital Library to enhance digital learning facilities for students and the community. It will support interactive learning, virtual sessions, digital content access, and skill-based education, especially for students with limited access to modern educational tools. This project was executed with District Foundation Grant D3240. Total cost of the project is Rs 1,10,000; out of which the Club received a District Foundation Grant D3240 of Rs 70,000/-. The project was successfully completed and report submitted to the District 3240 on 12 March 2026. The project will benefit around 300–400 students and community members annually, including school students, youth, and adult learners who use the Learning Commons Digital Library. This project aligns with Rotary’s focus on Education, Literacy, and Community Development.

Rotary Chess Training

The Chess Training program at Rotary Centre has been going on for the last six months. The Club employed a coach Mr. Roshan Rai to coach the children at per with international standard through the winter break of schools. On completion of six monts of training, and one month of training, a test was conducted on 14 Feb 26, to assess development of the children. At a special function held on 15th Feb, students and parents were invited to the Rotary Centre and results of the tests conducted were declared. Prizes/gifts were given out to all the students who took the tests.

Clothes Distribution Community Service

Clothes Distribution

RC Kalimpong in association with Christian Endavour Presbyterian Free Church under took a program to help the displaced persons affected by floods in the Dours, of Kalimpong District West Bengal. These persons, mostly living below the poverty lines are residing in a place called Thalijhora, Nagarkatta, Dours in Kalimpong district. They have been facing extreme poverty lacking basic necessasities like clothing. The Club through the medium of its association undertook the project to distribute clothes to the children. On 27th Dec 2025 RC Kalimpong reached out to the community and distributed clothing items to almost 100 children .

Motorbike Rally on 20 & 21 December 2025

On 20 December 2025, the Rotary Club of Kalimpong created history by organising its first Motorbike Rally under Rotary International’s global theme “End Polio Now.” The rally was the result of three months of careful planning, route recce, and coordinated teamwork. The event was planned under supervision of President Rtn Col AK Gogoi and Rtns Vikash Golyan and Mukesh Changia and executed by Rtn Vishal Gurung, with active support from Rtns Karan Pradhan and Abhishek Pradhan. Flagged off at 0900 hrs from the Rotary Centre, Kalimpong, by DSP Shri Bhanu Rai on behalf of Shri Shrihari Pandey, DIG (IPS) SP, Kalimpong, and escorted by Police riders, the rally passed through Algarah, Lava, Gorubathan, Samsing, Kumai Mor, and Jhollung, concluding at Parengtar, where it merged with the Kholeydai Festival. The rally saw participation from 12 bikers, including three lady riders. A special highlight was Rtn Col Kunga Sherpa, who returned to riding after 28 years to support the noble cause.

Chess Training for beginers

RC Kalimpong commenced a training program for the beginers of chess playing children to guide and prepare them to participate in tournaments and competitions in the future. The program has been brought about with the dedication of PP Rtn Sanjogita Subba. The training will be carried out by noted FIDE Rated Player and State Arbiter (recognised by the West Bengal Chess Association) Mr. Subham Rai. The modus operindi of the training sessions will be three days a week, i,e, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 3.00 PM to 5.00 PM. During the inaguration ceremony held on 07 Dec 25 19 children and 10 parents were present to learn and know what to expect and how the training will progress. This session is an on going program starting on 12th Dec 2025 onward.

Digital Literacy and Robotics Vocational Service

Digital Literacy and Robotics

On the eve of Children’s Day, the Rotary Club of Kalimpong organised a workshop on Digital Literacy and Robotics at its Rotary Centre. Students from six schools of Kalimpong participated in the workshop. The most important aspect of the workshop was that it was prepared and presented by the Interactors of Army Public School (APS) Kalimpong under the tutelage of Rtn Shova Pradhan Principal, APS. Interact Paridhi Mondal, a student of class VIII handled the PP presentation in Hindi and English. Her presentation was per excellence. Contents of the presentation and its depth was just right for the participating students who were from class VII to X. Fluent in both the languages, confident and a perfect delivery by Interact P Mandal, kept the students alert and attentive. The practical demonstration of robotics was equally well executed. The awareness program was organised by the Literacy Chair PP Sanjay Bajla and his team. 80 students participated in the awareness program.

Celebrations of World Interact Week New Generation Service

Celebrations of World Interact Week

The World Interact Week was observed by the Interact Clubs of Army Public School, Rockvale Academy, St Augustine School, and Dr. Graham’s Homes Kalimpong. During the week, posters on “Unite for Good,” “Eradication of Polio,” and “Save the Environment” were prepared and displayed. Clean-up drives were conducted in the school campuses. The Interactors organized talks and presentations on Hygiene and Sanitation, water conservation and handwashing steps. Posters were displayed in the school washing areas and washrooms to serve as constant reminder of good hygiene practices. A Tobacco Youth Campaign, and poster-making competition depicting the harmful effects of tobacco were also organized. A “Detectives for Hygiene” activity was organized where students identified hygiene-related issues within the campus and proposed practical solutions. Interactors of RVA participated in the Inter-District World Interact Week Meeting, and the Rotary Youth Leaders World Interact Week Webinar.

Motivational talk and career guidance

RC Kalimpong organised a career guidance cum motivational training program at Kumudini High School Kalimpong for the students of class XI & XII on 17 Oct at their school premises. The aim of the program was to bring in an awareness amongst the students of class XI & XII about how to join the defence forces in general and the National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakvasla, Pune in particular. The session was taken by Rtn Col Kunga Tshering Sherpa. The NDA is a premium educational institution where cadets of all three Indian Defence Forces the Army, Navy and Air Force are trained together. About 80 students participated in the program. The students greatly appreciated the session and had many questions to ask. Other Rotarians who were present were PP Rtn Sanjogita Subba and Rtn Ritika Singh.

The Installation ceremony of the District Interact Team of RID 3240 was conducted by Rotary Club of Kalimpong on 12th Oct 25 at the Rotary Centre Kalimpong. DIC Rtn Shubhankar Das could not make it to the ceremony due to last minute medical problems at his home. AG Zone 8 Rtn Shoyeta Cgatterjee presided over the installation ceremony and Vice President of RC Kalimpong Rtn Pravin Pradhan was the Guest of Honour. Interactors fron Darjelling, Gangtok and Kalimpong attended the meeting.

The 18th Installation Ceremony of Interact Club of Saptashri Gyanpeeth was held on 15th September at 3.30 PM in their School Auditorium. Rtn Col Ashok Gogoi was the Chief Guest and Rtn PP CA Sumit Jindal was the Guest of Honour. IPP Sheila Rai Fudong, PPs Prakash Gupta, Sanjay Bajla, Dr. DP Pandey, Col PC Thapa, Rtns AK Zimba, Cdr Dilram Gurung, First Lady Mrs. Pasang Gogoi, partner Chanda Gupta, Mrs. Smrita Pradhan Headmistress, Mr. Kaiser Chettri Administrative Head, Ms Subrata Thami, Mr. Avinash Chettri and Mr. Sanjeev Pradhan were other dignitaries who attended the function. Interactors from SAS, RVA, DGH and APS attended the ceremony. Itr Salukchana Thapa Incoming President, Itr Gracious Rai Secretary with 24 other Interactors was inducted to the Club. Rtn Col Gogoi in his message encouraged the Interactors to take benefit of the perfect platform provided to them by the Interact movement to develop their personality and leadership skills to face future challenges with ease.

Agro-Vet Mela 2025 Community Service

Agro-Vet Mela 2025

The Rotary club of Kalimpong organized an Agro-Vet Mela at Pedong on 13 Sept 2025. This mega event brought Health, Dental and Eye Check-up, Blood Donation, safety issues in the use of LPG, department like Agriculture, Fisheries, Health, and Animal Resources Development under one umbrella. The event was given wide publicity prior to its commencement and during its conduct by news and print media. Social media platform was used by distributing flyers to local groups, community elders and leaders and Self Help Groups. Active participation by Rtns Dr. Devendra Pradhan, Dr. DP Pandey and Dr. Gaurav Chettri and President Rtn Col Ashok Gogoi made the Agro-Vet Mela a grand success. Results achieved are as follows: Blood Donation- 31 units collected. Animal Birth Control- 33 operations conducted, 63 dogs vaccinated. Dental- 50 OPD. Eye- 100 OPD; 4 cataracts detected Red Cross- 100 hygiene kits distributed ARD- medicines distributed to 46 farmers David Gas Distributors- LPG Clinic.

Creation of Sports Complex for children Community Service

Creation of Sports Complex for children

A Sports complex was inaugurated at Rotary Centre on 6th August 2025 by the President Rtn Col Ashok Gogoi in the presence of fellow Rotarians, Rotary partners, children and their parents. The passion and determination of Rtn Vikas Kejriwal, main architect of this project, resulted in its creation within Rotary Centre. Presently the Centre offers Table Tennis, Badminton, Carom board, Chess, Hoopla and Skipping ropes, free of cost to the children. Basketball will be added to the list shortly. The sports facilities will be open on all days from 4.00 PM to 6.00 PM, except Monday. The parents of children who came to witness the inauguration were happy that their children will be able to play games in the neighbourhood, a facility which was not available to them so far. Entire cost of the sports facility has been borne by the members. The Rotary Centre also offers existing facilities of computer education, internet, and library to the general public.

Toiles in Upper Ladam High School

The project under District Grant DG2576883 for RY 2024-25 at Upper Ladam High School was concluded and handed over to the School authorities on 07 August 2025. Rtn Vishal Gurung played a vital role in its completion with his knowledge of masonry and plumbing works at reducing the cost of the project considerably. In fact he himself executed the final plumbing work inn connecting water connection to the toilets, there by saving hiring charges of a plumber. Mr. Francis Prakash Pradhan Headmaster of the school appreciated the work done by Rotary Club of Kalimpong in not only completing the toilets in time but also in gifting benches and tables to the school.

Chess Training

Rotary Club of Kalimpong, on 31 August 2025, launched a program to teach children the game of Chess at the Rotary Centre. 19 children enrolled for the training program. The President Rtn Col AK Gogoi welcomed the children and parents. Rtn Sanjogita Subba explained the purpose behind the training of the chess game and its benefits. She told that playing chess improves cognitive functions like memory, concentration, critical thinking and strategic planning along with reducing the screen time. A video on Anish Sarkar, who at 3 years is the World’s Youngest FIDE rated chess player, was screened to motivate the children. Rtn Col Kunga Sherpa, introduced the game of Chess to the children. He impressed upon the parents to encourage their children to continue the learning process. Training will be from 2.30 PM to 4.00PM on Sundays. Besides Chess, the children will also be introduced to other personality building traits like public speaking, introduction to computers, hobbies etc.

RYLA 2025

25 Interactors from three Interact Clubs under RC Kalimpong participated in RYLA conducted by RC Darjeeling from 1st August to 3rd August at HMI Darjeeling. Three vehicles were hired for transportation of the Interactors to and from Darjeeling. The team was escorted by PP Rtn Sanjogita Subba from Kalimpong to Darjeeling and back. Prior to their departure, an orientation training program was held at Rotary Centre Kalimpong by RC Kalimpong. Registration charges for students was Rs 1900/- and cost of transportation was Rs 800/- for both ways. Interactor Annabela from Dr. Grahams Homes Kalimpong was adjusted the Best RYLAIAN and Interactor Ronald from St Augustine School was adjusted as the Runner Up. Both the winner and runner up Rylaians are from Kalimpong.

The 2nd Installation Ceremony of Interact Club of Army Public School was held on 28 August at their Assembly Hall. Rtn Shove Pradhan Principal APS was the Chief Guest. Rtn Col Ashok Gogoi President RC Kalimpong, the Guest of Honour, PP Rtn CA Sumit Jindal New Gen Director, Rotarians and partners from RC Kalimpong, Faculty counselors, Interactors from APS, DGH, Saptashri Gyanpeeth and Rockvale Academy and teachers of APS graced the occasion. The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, singing of the National Anthem and felicitation of dignitaries and guests. Interact Choden Tamang took oath as the President of the Club. Interact Pratna Rai was inducted as the Secretary. The Clubs activities and Treasurers report for 2024-25 were presented. 13 Interactors were inducted during the ceremony.y A special moment of pride was the book launch of Interactor Paridhi Mandal, earlier in the day. She shared a brief gist of her book "Beyond the Cosmic Veil".

Free Juice Distribution on Independence Day

The Rotary Club of Kalimpong has been celebrating Independence Day by distributing orange juice free of cost to the public — a tradition that has become one of the Club’s signature humanitarian projects. On 15th August 2025, the Club continued this noble initiative, serving over 4,000 cups of orange juice and 22 jars of water to the general public. This year Interactors from Dr. Graham’s Homes, St. Augustine’s School, Rockvale Academy, and Army Public School, joined hands with children and spouses of Rotary members in distribution. On a hot Independence Day, this refreshing gesture was warmly received by the public who expressed heartfelt appreciation. Blessings and words of encouragement were showered upon the Interactors for their selfless service. The entire project was made possible through the generous contributions of Rotary members. The Rotary Club of Kalimpong remains committed to its motto of “Service Above Self”, and again reflected its’s dedication to community welfare.

The Rotary Club of Kalimpong organized a sensitization program on Mother & Child Health care with the support of Dr. Ankan Simlandi, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Health and Dr. Nalini Lama, a social worker. The participants were from Self Help Groups. PE Pravin Pradhan welcomed all participants. Dr. Ankan Simlandi opened his speech with the remarks that “ Mother & Child Health Care “ is an important indicator of Nation’s health, social and economic potential. Then he went on to explain the Indian Government’s initiatives for safe motherhood. These initiatives include (a) Janani Suraksha Yojna and (b) Shishu Surakha Karyakram especially for women from weak socio economic status i.e. women from scheduled castes, scheduled Tribes & BPL households. The aim of the Janani Suraksha scheme is reduce maternal & infant mortality by providing deliveries at Health Centre/hospitals , financial help to cover delivery related expenses & post delivery care till the infant is one year old

Installation of Interact Club of Rockvale Academy

The 18th installation of the Interact Club of Rockvale Academy was held on 25TH July, 2025 in their school hall. Chief Guest was Capt Prakash Mani Pradhan, Principal RVA, Guest of Honour was Rtn. Col. Ashok Gogoi, President RC Kalimpong and Special Guest was Rtn. CA Sumit Jindal, New Gen Director, RC Kalimpong. The others present were Rtns, Interactors and Faculty Counselors from SAS, DGH and Vrindavan School and APS. The program began with a welcome address and a song by the Interactors of RVA. The Sec. Intr Sharon Lepcha and Treasurer Intr Utkristi Rai gave their annual reports. President of RC Kalimpong installed the new Interact President Intr Sneha Singh, who is also the DIR of the RID 3240. She then gave her acceptance speech and announced the members of her BOD. Lapel pins were given to 85 new Interactors. New Gen Director Rtn Sumit Jindal administered the oath. This was followed by the speeches of the Guest of Hon. Rtn Ashok Gogoi and the Chief Guest, Capt Prakash Pradhan.

Blood donation and Vet Camp

Rotary Club of Kalimpong hosted a successful Blood Donation camp cum Vet camp at Mani Memorial Primary School in Sindebong Kalimpong. Rtns Present were President Col Ashok Gogoi, alongside the First Lady Mrs. Pasang Gogoi, IPP Sheila Rai Fudong Rtns Col Prakash Thapa, Sanjogita Subba, Dr. Deven Pradhan, Dr. D P Pandey, Karan Pradhan, Rajat Dalmia, Partner Sonia Dalmia and Rtn Ritika Singh. The community members arrived with an aura of excitement to donate blood. Rtn Karan Pradhan was among the first to donated blood. All the blood donors were given one Credit card to get 1 unit of blood free of cost from Blood bank District Hospital Kalimpong. At 12:00 pm, the camp gained momentum, attracting many pet owners from both nearby and distant locales. Rtn Dr. DP Pandey conducted 20 ABC operations and treated 50 animals and given preventive medicines. There were 21 units of blood collected with another 5 rejected on medical grounds.

Today, 13th of July’25, Sunday the Bhanu Jayanti program was celebrated with great respect and honor at Trikon Park, Thanadara and Town Hall by the Nepali Shitya Adhyayan Samiti. The President and Members of Rotary Club of Kalimpong were invited by the Organizing Committee. Rtn Pravin Pradhan President Elect, Rtn Sanjogita Subba and Rtn Manindra Bhujel, on behalf of RC Kalimpong offered Khadas at the statue of the revered poet Bhanu Bhakta, paying tribute to his literary contributions and legacy. The occasion was marked by heartfelt speeches, cultural performances, and a gathering of community members who came together to honor the spirit of Bhanu Bhakta.

Provision of Toilets at Upper Ladam High School Ka

Rs 70,000/- have ben received under DG2576883from the District as a District Grant to construct toilets at Upper Ladam Primary School Kagey Kalimpong last year. The total cost of the project is 115000/-. Since the same couldnt be completed within the short period of time, District was requested to grant permission to complete the project on the current Rotary Year. PP Mukesh Changia, Rtn Vikash Kejriwal, President Rtn Col Ashok Gogoi and Secretary Rtn Vishal Gurung made a preliminary recce of the site and discussed how to execute the project successfully with the Headmaster of the School Mr. Francis Gurung and the designated masonry worker recommended by the Headmaster.

Workshop on Financial Literacy

A workshop on Financial Literacy was organized by the Womens Empowerment Committee of RC Kalimpong. The aim of the workshop was to empower the women with financial knowledge of investing their money wisely and bring awareness against financial frauds. President Rtn Col Ashok Gogoi welcomed the participants and informed them about Rotary and its contributions. The participants were from Self Help Groups of Kalimpong. Mr. Sandip Choudhury, Branch Manager of Axis Bank, Kalimpong commenced his talk by explaining different types of accounts. He highlighted how cyber criminals lure innocent victims by offering high returns. Not respond to suspicious calls and explained how to identify them. Mails from "anydesk" and "teamreview" are fake. He narrated some live examples. PP Sanjogita Subba, moderated the workshop. Importance of protecting confidentiality of Credit/Debit Cards, Aadhar Card etc., and having a nominee in accounts were highlighted. Vote of thanks was given by Rtn Ritika Singh.
